Free ships, crates of stuff, tricks, common questions, and other stuff is covered here. Some consider the X series of games to be a massive singleplayer sorta online game. What? The game is single player in a sandbox though many people use the Egosoft forum to discuss things going on in their universe, tell tales, ask questions, participate in development of the game, and much more. Please keep in mind this is not complete, many things left [todo]. =============================================================================== nIII Frequently Asked Questions =============================================================================== Got a question, maybe the answer is here. Q. What is this game? A. The X-series has evolved over the years. X3TC is a sandbox style game, think of Morrowind in space. One can do the plots, ignore them, or forsake everything by modding the game to something very different. Not so much an RPG as an action shooter in space or trade empire sim on a stick, err in space. Q. Is this an expansion? A. X3 Terran Conflict is a standalone game in the X series. Think of it as X3.5 Story is taken up a few years after X3: Reunion ended though knowledge of previous games is not required. Q. What is combat like? A. Akin to dogfighting. Your choice in weapons and ability to use them will determine how well you do. Of course it is possible to let the AI fight instead but that would be something far later in most games. Some ships don't have main guns and rely on turrets instead. Weapon selection is based on the current ship flown and its class. Q. How's the learning curve? A. To some it's more of a wall... but don't let that dissuade you! Persistance will reward many hours of enjoyment. If you are not familliar with other space style games it can be difficult. Even with familliarity to other games the controls can be different. Just hang in there. Oh, and customize the controlls to your style of play after you get the basics down. And never stop learning, for if you do, you must surely be dead. Q. How does one save progress? A. [todo]dock+autosave dock+manual save salvage Q. What are the differences between game starts? A. Starting ship, gear, credits in the bank, and a couple of mini-missions. Story missions are slightly affected aswell. In time all starts will be similar to each other. Q. What are the ship classes? A. The smaller ships M5 and M4 have their uses, many keep one M5 in the later game for their speed. M3's are the main workers to destroy something and make fine personal ships. TM is like a mini carrier, very useful to cary loot and a collection of fighters around for quick deployment or certain missions. The M6 is an upscaled M3, more shielding and turrets. The M7 is your run of the mill kick behind (don't bother with the names) ship. Many of this class can swat smaller ships in a couple of shots and give larger ships a run for their money. M2's are slow moving heavily shielded weapons of mass destruction while an M1 has similar shields, less armaments, and acts as a true carrier. Two ship types that deal in missles are the M8 and M7M. The M8 will use one type of heavy missile where as the M7M can use anti-fighter, a less damaging heavy missle, and some may use boarding pods to help in capturing bigger ships. TS ships are the standard ware haulers. TP's carry around workers and VIP's. TL's are large transporters mainly used to carry and deploy stations The M0 class ship has only been seen twice. The first was used by the Xenon and second by the Kha'ak. Both ships were designed to destroy planets. Q. What are the races? A. [blurb] Argon [blurb] Boron Squiddy thingies. [blurb] Paranid [blurb] Split [blurb] Teladi [blurb] Terran [blurb] Goner [blurb] Pirate [blurb] Yaki [blurb] Kha'ak [blurb] Xenon [blurb] [todo:...] Q. I'm brand new to the game and having problems with... A. Just cheat. Yes, I'm not joking. Being less frustrated will lead to discovering more about the game. Get the basics then start a new game. Just don't get used to it. Ensure you have the goal to at least start once from scratch and work your way up to a massive trade empire or dominant military force. Or be crazy and do it all in a multi-year spanning game. If you don't want to cheat or can't handle waning yourself off cheating then by all means post a help message on one of the many X3TC message boards out there. Q. Why can't I enter Argon Sector M148? A. It is a restricted military staging ground for operations. Temporary entrace will be granted for contracted traders, aka one plot mission, and permament access given to those aiding in current military excursions. See your local military recruiter for details on Operation Final Fury. Q. What is the modified tag and what does it mean? A. This tag will appear under the player info stats (quickest way to check is to hit 'p' twice with default keyset then page down to the end). It normally indicates the game has been altered from the default 'vanilla' install or certain things have been added or activated. Aside from the text showing up in that spot the only other affect is uploading player stats to the Egosoft site will not be compared to others whom have uploaded stats from vanilla games. Q. \ A. / Q. What does ... mean? A. Best to direct you to the Egosoft site's acronym list where a massive amount of items are covered. Look them up if confusion sets in, try not to treat it like homework to be studied. [todo:check notes for specific location and names] =============================================================================== nVI Useful Tricks =============================================================================== Some see these as exploits, others as time savers, so it is up to you and your play style. It is a single player game at the end of the day. A. Duplication of weapons/shields/missiles: Find an Equipment Dock attached to a Shipyard that stocks the item you want to duplicate. Can be used for many wares, let us use a PPC as an example. 1. Sell one PPC to a trading station linked to a shipyard. 2. Buy two TS' from the same shipyard. If you intend to use the ships, upgrade them. More storage may be helpful. 3. Buy one PPC. You actually get two, one in each ship. 4. Sell one PPC back to the dock. You actually sell two to the dock, one from each ship. Larger increments can be done with items that a dock can hold more than a couple. 5. Buy two PPC's from the dock. 6. Repeat step 4 and 5 until you have enough or run out of cash. You will end up spending a lot for the items though save time equipping ships. B. Passive income with SETA: One can set up stations, Sector/Uni Traders and let them do the hard work while you leave the game on 10x speed. There are a few drawbacks. First your combat rank will decrease (which may be good if you are having combat trouble). Second your assets may be destroyed or even your current ship. Third is the real life impact on your computer and cost to operate it. Simple example would be to make an Argon Wheat Farm. Get ships set up to supply the station and sell the product for a decent profit. Leave it running over night. Use the funds to make another Wheat Farm a few sectors away or build a different type of station like a mine or set a sector trader up. Keep re-investing to expand the income to the point you want or obtain that ship to do missions in style while keeping your job.. and friends.. and life.. and... C. Instant ship shield recharge: [todo] D. Script Editor & "Codes/Cheating": This section will apply the modified tag to your game, if that matters to you. As stated previously try not to get too reliant on cheating/scripting as much of the game may get degraded as a result. Good for learning or getting past an annoying point or situation it can be good. Also keep in mind not all modding is cheating, many folks rebalance the game to be harder and to have more functionality (some things end up being officially added to the game later on). Be careful what you do with the Script Editor as it may have unwanted results on your game. Navigate to the pilot name change menu and enter the following while not docked (Note the capital 'T'. Your name will not change afterwards.): Thereshallbewings Alrighty, with that out of the way let's start with unlocking the script editor for a test game. Start up a new game and use the above info to activate the editor. Quick way to access it is 'shift+c' then 's'. Use the arrow keys ...
